C. Colour requirements: Bright pastel colours. Purple is a staple for their brand, paired with a lot of other bright pastel colours. The clients like bright blue, turquoise, mint green and other greens, purples and other bright, fun, mommy blogger-esque colours. They wanted the colours to pop while staying relatively simple. They also liked the combination of a creamy tan colour with one of their other main colours.
Their colour choices are definitely more on the modern side, but the retro look with thick lines going behind or through the main image would better fit the book´s style.
D. Design needs:
The book will be 8.5×11. The clients preferred the combination of a script type font with a sharper modern font, understanding that that emulates their unique fun and light-hearted approach to serious health topics. The cover should be a dance between serious and playful.
The mood of the cover should feel inviting and fun, but more than they were looking for a retro vibe with a modern twist.
Our Proposal
Following the brief, we went for a retro look using green as the main background colour, highlighting the text in zones.
Green is to reflect the “natural”, while ceramic red is used to reflect “home”/”caring”/”warmth” to the eyes of your ideal reader.
Three different typefaces were selected to help divide the content into easily readable zones. The end result is quite appealing and will stand out in bookstores or online marketplaces.
